Research Objectives
When, why and how is "reconciliation" achieved in different cultures - after a ceasefire or a first public commitment to peace? How are the terms “reconciliation” and “peace” used in different cultural and historical contexts, when and why? Scientists research these questions and develop a "paternalism-free" working definition of "reconciliation" that enables a dialogue with the cooperation partners and future-oriented cooperation in the field of development policy.

Call for Abstracts/Papers: Second Colloquium on Peace, Conflict and Reconciliation Studies
The Bonner Center for Reconciliation Studies (BCRS) of the University of Bonn and the Bonn International Centre on Conflict Studies (bicc) are pleased to announce the Second Colloquium on Peace, Conflict and Reconciliation Studies, to be held in Bonn on 21 January 2027.
Following the successful first edition, this joint initiative brings together early-career scholars working on peacebuilding, reconciliation, conflict transformation, and related fields. We invite PhD candidates and PostDocs to present and discuss their ongoing research in a collegial and supportive environment. The colloquium provides a space for intellectual exchange, constructive feedback, and discussion across disciplinary and thematic boundaries. It also aims to strengthen a regional network of researchers and promote sustained dialogue, collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and professional development.
10 Years Since the Signing of the Peace Agreement between the FARC-EP and the Colombian State
In 2016, the peace agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People’s Army (FARC-EP), the oldest guerrilla movement in the Western Hemisphere, was signed. The four-year negotiation process culminated in the signing of a six-point agreement covering issues ranging from the end of the conflict to agrarian reform, political participation, and the country’s policy on illegal drugs.
The negotiation process and the implementation of the agreement led to the introduction of a new system of transitional justice that is regarded as a model worldwide. The implementation of the agreement brought with it numerous insights, but also challenges. Ten years after its signing, new forms of violence have emerged, and additional actors have entered the scene. In addition, a wide range of political discussions have influenced the implementation process and, consequently, the establishment of a stable and lasting peace.

The Annual Conference of the North Rhine-Westphalia Network for Peace and Conflict Research will take place at the University of Bonn.
Under the theme "NRW: Between Rearmament and Internal Peace", the conference will bring together researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss current challenges in peace and conflict research and explore perspectives for peace, security, and social cohesion. The event also gives an opportunity to peace and conflict scholars across NRW to connect and exchange thoughts on current research and emerging challenges.
