Dr. Alexander Kalgin
Postdoc Fellow at the Institute of Sociology

Dr. Alexander Kalgin is a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Reconciliation Studies, Institute of Sociology, University of Bonn, focusing on academia, exile, and human rights defenders. He is a sociologist and economist with academic experience in Russia and Germany. After completing a PhD in institutional economics (2015), he transitioned to sociology with an MA in 2019. He worked at HSE University in Moscow for over a decade before emigrating to Germany against the backdrop of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since 2022, he has held research posts at IOS Regensburg, the SCRIPTS Cluster at Freie Universität Berlin, and Constructor University Bremen.
