How are conflicts addressed, defused, or resolved in different societies? What concepts, practices, and institutions are employed in this process – and what functional equivalents of “reconciliation” can be identified in different regions of the world? The new Research Training Group will address these questions through a transcultural comparison of European and non-European societies. The focus is on social negotiation processes, conflict resolution methods, and the underlying systems of values and norms.

This grant represents a significant achievement for reconciliation research at the University of Bonn. It strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration between the humanities, cultural studies, and the social sciences, and creates excellent conditions for supporting a new generation of researchers. Further information on job openings and how to apply will be posted in the coming months.

As an interdisciplinary platform, the Bonn Center for Reconciliation Studies will closely support the work of the Research Training Group and further expand academic networking both within and outside the University of Bonn. Together with the participating researchers, we look forward to developing new perspectives on reconciliation and its many forms.
